What Does God Sound Like?

Then the man (Adam) and his wife (Eve) heard the sound of the Lord God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.  But the Lord God called to the man, "Where are you?  Genesis 3:8-9 (NIV).

The voice of the Lord echoes above the sea. The God of glory thunders. The Lord thunders over the mighty sea. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.  The voice of the Lord splits the mighty cedars; the Lord shatters the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon’s mountains skip like a calf; He makes Mount Hermon leap like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord strikes with bolts of lightning. The voice of the Lord makes the barren wilderness quake; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord twists mighty oaks and strips the forests bare. In His Temple everyone shouts, “Glory!” The Lord rules over the floodwaters. The Lord reigns as King forever. The Lord gives His people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace. Psalms 29:3-11 (NLT).

God controls and holds all power over nature. The Lord’s voice is awe-inspiring, powerful, and breathtaking.  God’s voice dominates the world and can cause even gigantic mountains to shake (see also Psalm 114:4) and giant trees to break.  In addition, God’s voice can be heard throughout world, from the north to the south. God reigns supreme over the whole created order.  Most important, God still cares for you to help with your daily problems. When you feel weak and alone, remember that God is available to you.
